Collision Damage Waiver

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) provides an added layer of protection by limiting your financial liability for certain types of damage during your rental period. However, it’s important to know exactly what CDW covers – and what it doesn’t – before making a decision.

What CDW Covers:

  • Car bodywork repairs (painted areas such as doors, bonnet, rear panels, side panels, and wing mirrors).

What CDW Does Not Cover:

  • Car roof
  • Glass (windows, headlights, mirrors)
  • Tires and wheels
  • Flat battery issues
  • Interior trim (seats, carpet, dashboard, etc.)
  • Undercarriage damage
  • Personal belongings (inside the cabin, glove box, or trunk)
  • Transmission/gearbox issues

Excess Amount (Claim Contribution):

CDW in the UAE comes with an “Excess” or “Excess Claim Amount”, which is the maximum amount you will contribute towards bodywork repairs. This typically ranges from AED 2,000 to AED 15,000, depending on the rental agreement. Any damage beyond bodywork (such as mechanical or interior damage) will be fully the renter’s responsibility.

Important Conditions:

  • CDW does not apply if the driver is unauthorized or driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
  • A Dubai Police Report is mandatory for all claims.
  • Without a police report, the renter is responsible for all repair costs.

Additional Protection:

While CDW is a key part of rental insurance, most rental agreements also include:

  • Theft Protection – covers car theft and related damages.
  • Third-Party Liability – covers damage caused to other vehicles, property, or people.

Understanding CDW helps you rent with confidence in Dubai, knowing exactly what’s covered and avoiding unexpected costs.

Third Party Liability

Third-Party Liability (TPL) Insurance in Dubai Car Rentals

Third-Party Liability (TPL) insurance is a mandatory requirement for all vehicles on UAE roads, including rental cars. At Cardiwan Car Rental LLC, every vehicle comes with standard TPL coverage to protect you against financial risks when driving in Dubai and across the UAE.

What Does Third-Party Liability Insurance Cover?

In simple terms, a “third party” refers to anyone other than you, such as other drivers, pedestrians, or even passengers in your rental car. “Liability” means your legal responsibility to cover damages or injuries if you are at fault in an accident.

TPL insurance typically covers:

  • Property Damage – Repairs or replacement costs for another person’s property (vehicles, buildings, personal items, etc.).
  • Injury Costs – Medical bills, lost wages, or related expenses if others are injured.
  • Legal Expenses – Court fees and third-party legal claims resulting from the accident.

This ensures that if an accident occurs, your TPL policy provides a financial safety net, preventing you from paying huge costs out of pocket.

What TPL Insurance Does Not Cover

While TPL protects against third-party claims, it does not cover:

  • Damage to your rented vehicle
  • Theft of the rental car
  • Damages caused by off-road driving, reckless behavior, or driving under the influence
  • Accidents involving unauthorized drivers not listed in the rental contract

Important Conditions

  • A Dubai Police Report is mandatory for any claim. Without it, TPL coverage cannot be applied.
  • If the renter drives under the influence or allows an unauthorized driver, coverage becomes invalid, and the renter is fully responsible for costs.

Why TPL Insurance Matters

Having Third-Party Liability insurance is not only legally required in Dubai, but it also ensures a stress-free rental experience. By covering third-party damages, you can drive confidently knowing you are protected against unexpected financial burdens.

At Cardiwan Car Rental, your safety and peace of mind are our priority. That’s why every rental includes TPL coverage by default.
